It’s cute they think we’ll make it to 2030

Doesn’t B oeing need longer range more than they need higher capacity?

I mean they were working on the NMA, so I guess they thought they had a gap in both range and capacity, but it seems like they are hurting more in terms of not having a longer ranger narrow body since they killed the 757.

Of course I still say that if the 787 is too expensive and the 737 is too small/short range, Boeing probably should just offer a passenger version of the KC-46, probably with an option for the 787's more efficient engines which would give them something a little smaller, and significantly less expensive up front than the 787, but with much better capacity and range than the 737.

You’re thinking way too hard about this, though I do agree with you. I was going for the easy gag.

I must say, I’m glad I bought the stock back in early April. It initially went down another ~20% but it’s been bonkers since then. Wish I had bought more.

On a side note, I see what you did with your lead image....

I may not know much about them fancy flying machines but if I were running Boeing I’d prioritize the  737 replacement over anything and everything else.

They should have done that years ago. But going all in on a new plane is expensive and potentially disastrous. They waited and waited and now, when it might actually be the perfect time, their pants are still down around their ankles.

I think it will happen! Maybe not this summer, and maybe not as much for business, but I think people will want to go places, and will still be able to.

I’m not sure I made it ludicrously long enough. It almost looks believable.

I almost though it was real (was all set to post the Dr. Ian Malcom “ Your scientists... ” meme) , but then I noticed there’s a stepped pattern on the aft fuselage where the image was ‘shopped.

Yeah, I forgot to clean it up where the blue meets white. I’m no photoshop expert, by any means. Still, for somebody who knows just enough PS to be dangerous, it’s not that bad. I showed it to my son, and he said, “Needs bigger engines.” I replied that Boeing knows that...

I came for the joke, then thought it might be real when I saw who posted it and had to look close for the photoshop traces... So yeah, coming from you it needs to be either much longer or a much more obvious PS job

Well it looks to be missing a few exit doors, but I think you’ve solved the pitch up p roblem for good.

So, Boeing is taking the CRJ 900 approach?

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

After all, the Challenger was designed with stretching it into an airliner in mind when it was created  by none other than the great Bill Lear. The 737? I doubt that anyone in the ‘60s expected the 737 to morph into what it is now.

No need for exits when MCAS puts it nose first into the ground.

I’m reminded of what a conductor once said about Ravel’s Bolero : “It’s too bad Ravel didn’t know Bolero would be so popular. If he had known, he would have written a better piece.”

Add a tail skid - it’s gonna need it.

It just needs to get up to about 500 mph on the ground so it can lift straight up. Boeing is working on the software for that right now.

Perhaps, but it’s interesting to see “grown-ups” like Toyota, Honda and now Airbus commit to a long-term hydrogen-based transport future.

They’ll all run the math and nobody sees how batteries get good enough, fast enough to solve the big picture. We are just turning the corner on hydrogen synthesis... stuff that wasn’t feasible even 10 years ago... and have at least a dozen processes being refined for Zero Carbon Hydrogen.

Part of my long-term bullishness is seeing where Gates and Myhrvold are placing their bets.  Those guys actually ARE geniuses.

Even with electricity, though, you have all the bad stuff that goes into making the batteries, all the bad stuff that happens when you generate the electricity, and all the bad stuff that comes out of the batteries when they are dead. With an administration that is openly hostile to alternative forms of energy and openly hostile to the environment, we need a change at the tope before anything else changes meaningfully.
